Glenn Davis, a member of the Prestige
Group, announced the development of a 91-room Homewood
Suites by Hilton in Columbus Park Crossing across the road
from Acura BMW on Wittlesey Blvd. The Prestige Group will
be investing $15 million in the project creating 60 new
jobs.
Homewood Suites by Hilton brand launched
in 1989. Today there are more than 170 properties with
more than 110 in the pipeline. Homewood Suites by Hilton
is designed to make guests feel at home, providing them
with all of the comforts, convenience and privacy of home
for the price of a traditional hotel room. Every suite
features separate living and sleeping areas, a fully
equipped kitchen with refrigerator, microwave oven,
two-burner stove, dishwasher and coffeemaker. Guests also
enjoy a daily complimentary Suite Start® hot breakfast
and complimentary in-suite high-speed Internet access.
"We are excited to bring the
Homewood Suites by Hilton to Columbus," said Davis.
"It will provide the traveling business person and
the vacationer a facility with room to spare and a look
and feel of home away from home."

internationally as a preeminent hospitality company. The

Board 2nd Vice Chair Richard Anthony and
chair of the Chamber’s reaccreditation efforts,
talks to the Board of Directors April 26 about the
reaccreditation process and expressed appreciation to
the board members who have been invited to lead the
sections of the effort. |
Richard Anthony, CEO and president,
Synovus, joined the Board Executive Committee of the Greater
Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce as 2nd Vice Chair. He
is also chairing the Chamber's reaccreditation in 2006. The
reaccreditation process takes place every five years. Once
this one is completed, the Chamber would be accredited for
35 years.
Anthony joined Synovus in 1992 when
Synovus merged with First Commercial Bancshares of
Birmingham, AL. He served as president of Synovus Financial
Corp. of Alabama from 1993 until 1995, when he was elected
vice chairman of the holding company and was responsible for
the management of all of the company's affiliate banks and
its mortgage company. Anthony was elected president and
chief operating officer in 2003 and served in that role
until being named chief executive officer and president in
July 2005.
Synovus provides diverse financial
services including banking, financial management, insurance,
mortgage and leasing services through banks and other
Synovus offices in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida
and Tennessee. In addition, Synovus offers electronic
payment processing through an 81-percent stake in TSYS, one
of the world's largest companies for outsourced payment
services. As CEO and President, Anthony has responsibility
for the performance and strategic direction of Synovus and
its affiliated companies.
He is a graduate of the University of
Alabama and received his Masters of Business Administration
from the University of Virginia.

More than 3,000
sixth graders participated in the Drug Free... You & Me
conference
For three days, sixth graders from area
schools participated in the half-day Drug Free...You & Me
conference in April. For 15 years the Chamber has supported
and participated in the program. The conference brings in
nationally known speakers to talk to the students about
making good positive decisions about substance abuse,
smoking and sex as well as who they associate with.
Some of the presenters talk about real
life experiences while others present their messages with
music. The students have fun and leave more informed about
making future decisions in their lives.

Infantry Foundation announces the Coca-Cola IMAX®
Theater |

Jerry White, chairman of the Board, National
Infantry Foundation, announced April 21 that the
National Infantry Museum named the Coca-Cola IMAX®
Theater in honor of the brand's long history of
refreshing American soldiers stationed in every part
of the globe. The new Coca-Cola IMAX® Theater will
be located within the museum building, near the
front entrance. Visitors to the museum will be
handed polarized IMAX 3D glasses as they enter the
theater to enjoy blockbuster films such as
"Deep Sea 3D" and "NASCAR 3D: The
IMAX Experience." The theater will also play 2D
large format films such as "Fighter Pilot:
Operation Red Flag." The 300-seat theater will
feature a state-of-the-art, six-channel digital
audio system and a 52 ft. wide x 70 ft. tall screen.
It will become the third IMAX® Theater in Georgia
and, like the other two, will also be utilized as a
venue for private and public multi-media
presentations and conferences. At the announcement
(Center-Seated) Helen Smith Price, executive
director of the Coca-Cola Foundation and Jim
Winkler, Georgia unit manager, Coca-Cola Bottling
Co. Consolidated, presented a $1.25 million
contribution to the National Infantry Museum.
"We are here today to pay respect to the legacy
of the American Infantry soldier," said Price.
"I am honored to represent the Coca-Cola
Company in its support of the National Infantry
Museum's mission of educating the public on the
lessons learned on the fields of valor." Also
participating in the announcement was (Seated-Left)
Maj. Gen. Walter Wojdakowski, chief of Infantry, who
talked about how important the museum will be to
young solders. (Seated-Right) Brad Turner, president, W.C.
Bradley Co., talked about how important the project
is to the community and how important the soldiers
have been to the defense of the country. |

America |

announced Nov. 22, 2005 they would be locating in Columbus. They are
investing $6 million and creating 150 jobs with the potential of growing
to 450 full and part-time assistance coordinators at their facility at
1838 Victory Drive. The Workforce Partnership, consisting of the Workforce
Development Department of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of
Commerce, the Georgia Department of Labor and Columbus Technical College,
are pleased to announce that the recent Road America job fair has, thus
far, resulted in more than 700 applicants with more than 80 offers being
extended for open positions. Road America was very pleased at the hiring
plan and success created by the Workforce Partnership. |
