Fort Benning can deploy a Mechanize Infantry Brigade in a short period of time by land, sea or air, anywhere in the world.


By Land (Ochillee Rail Head)

  • Capable of staging 72 rail cars.
  • Capable of deploying 216 rail cars per day.
  • Separate wash facility and ammunition loading area.
  • Direct link to road deployment network.

By Sea (JAXPORT - Jacksonville, FL)

  • Provide all Port Support for deployment efforts at JAXPORT.
  • Fully operational in support of Iraqi Freedom since February 03.
  • Supported 32 vessels with 27,410 pieces of equipment.
  • Largest single sea deployment site in Iraqi Freedom

By Air (Lawson Army Airfield)

  • Capable of handling any aircraft that flies with a newly expanded 10,000 ft. runway.
  • Capable of hosting a maximum of 7 C-5s or 14 C-17s.
  • 1,500 soldier passenger processing facility.

Fort Benning has over 180,000 acres at its main installation. It also has mountain availability for training in Dahlonega, GA and swamp, river and coastal training at Fort Eglin Air force base and Camp Rutter Florida. The Chattahoochee river runs through Fort Benning allowing for both fast and slow bridge training opportunities in both Georgia and Alabama. It is one of only two bases that have this unique opportunity.

Uchee Creek

On the southwestern side of Fort Benning is a place where trees grow tall and the water of an inviting inlet flows deep and cool. This is Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina — a place where active duty and retired military personnel, DOD civilians, their families and other eligible personnel can spend a weekend or an entire vacation enjoying the natural beauty of the scenic Chattahoochee River. Destin Recreation Area

The Destin Recreation Area's 15 1/2 acres of land located on the shores of the Choctawhatchee Bay provide active duty and retired military personnel, their families, and DA civilians many ways to unwind and enjoy a tropical vacation just 220 miles south of Fort Benning. The recreation area is located only a short drive from Florida's breathtaking beaches.
