Since establishment in 1918, Fort Benning continues to have
a major impact on the Columbus region. It is the area's largest employer
with more than 41,000 soldiers and civilians. More than 75,000 soldiers
from all over the world train at Fort Benning annually. Fort Benning and
the region enjoy a very positive, relationship, evidenced in many
public-private partnerships.
The Fort Benning Futures Partnership, formed in mid 2003 in
anticipation of the several potential sources of growth to Fort Benning,
is an organization supported by both public and private funds. This web
site is provided as a service of the FBFP to provide a broad range of
information on Fort Benning and our community.
The mission of the Fort Benning Futures Partnership is to develop and
facilitate an overall strategy to capitalize on the economic development
potential of Growing Fort Benning. FBFP now involves 6 counties in Georgia
and 3 in Alabama. This "community action group" takes a
comprehensive regional approach to preparing for growth by measuring
capacity, identifying shortfalls, and prompting action to create
solutions. FBFP seeks grants to fund studies or assist in increasing
capacity, involving leaders at the local, regional, state, and federal
level. FBFP provides periodic community updates throughout the region. The
following link, FBFP Growth Summary provides for
