Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGa), the state’s largest health benefits company with more than 75 years of serving Georgia, is adding 400 jobs at its Columbus location to support State Health Benefit Plan members.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson stated, “It is a great day when new jobs and new investments are created in a city or county.  We are excited about this announcement”.

Earlier this year BCBSGa announced 200 new positions as part of the Healthcare Exchange.

The new jobs will include medical professionals and entry level and managerial positions in the areas of customer service, training and other operational functions. These employees will provide service to the State Health Benefit Plan members in a valuable, trusted and caring way.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2014, BCBSGa will be providing Third Party Administrative (TPA) services and Medical Management to the State Health Benefit Plan which covers approximately 650,000 Georgians, including the State Employees Plan, the Teachers Plan, the Public School Employees Plan and Medicare Advantage plans for retirees.

“Our public-private partnership has once again proven to make sure we take care of our existing business”, said Jacki Lowe, Chamber Chair.
