Jay Gemes State Farm was named the October 2013 Hometown Hero award recipient at the Chamber Lunch & Learn on October 10. State Farm agent Jay Gemes accepted the award from John Anker, owner of Ankerpak, who serves as the Chair of the Small Business Recognition Committee. The Hometown Hero is awarded quarterly to a new, locally owned and operated business who is making a difference in the small business community.
Jay moved back to Columbus in March of 2013 to open his State Farm agency, offering insurance and financial services. Jay graduated from Hardaway High School and went on to the University of Georgia where he was the first Bradley-Turner Leadership Scholar there. After graduation he and his wife, Trecia, worked for Campus Crusade for Christ at the University of Southern Mississippi. He later worked in pharmaceutical sales for 9 years and started with State Farm in 2009. Jay and Trecia have been married for 17 years and have four daughters, Rebecca, Caroline, LIzzie and Kate. When he is not working to pay for future college and marriage expenses for his daughters, Jay enjoys passionately following Georgia football.
